Abstract

The São Francisco River in its fauna contains numerous fish species with environmental, social and economic importance, either in the riverine communities themselves, either in the whole national territory. However, it is known that the fish stocks of the river, as well as other water bodies, is in decline because of increased pressure capture .A farming arises, for small producers, not only as an alternative source of income, but also as conservation and preservation of the species of the São Francisco River, and its viability sustains itself because of the huge water potential existing in our country, the objective of the work was to study the feasibility of fish farming as an alternative source of income for small farms in the municipality of Januária in northern Minas Gerais. The methodology used was literature review research pointed as a result the feasibility of implementing the cultivation of fish, for traditionally riparian are already holders of vast knowledge on the subject matter.
