Abstract
The city of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, has an urban beach well preserved, with the presence of buildings, commercial activity and intensive tourism. Whereas most of the world population lives in coastal areas, the coastal environment should be preserved for us to maintain a healthy marine environment. This article aims to explain the characteristics and quantity of solid materials deposited on the waterline Beach Santos. Most of the material found was located in the regions between channels, including waste such as plastic bags and straws, but mainly mangrove seeds, dead crustaceans and sea biscuits brought by the tide. Through this analysis it is concluded that these residues come from the inner region of the estuarine system of Santos and São Vicente, where there are mangroves and occupation of stilts and neighborhoods without adequate garbage collection structure.
