Abstract

The knowledge and caiçara culture represented by the artesanal fishery from father to son has been lost over the years due to new social customs. In order to bring and maintain the knowledge of fishing and sailing knots to high schools in central litoral of São Paulo, the present study aimed as target two schools in the municipalities of Guarujá and São Vicente. At the end of the activities, three knotboards were made, one exposed in the campus of the university (UNESP-CLP) and the other two also with permanent exposure in the two target schools. There were also two participations in professional exhibition fairs and two visits of the schools to the UNESP-CLP campus. The results showed the importance of the exchange of experiences between university students and middle and high school students, and the incentive that should be given in order to local cultures and fishing knowledge be not forgotten.
