Abstract

Over the past 20 years, Brazil has experienced a population growth exceeding 6.5%, leading to an increased demand for urban expansion and construction. This rapid growth, coupled with the urgency of construction projects, often compromises proper planning and execution, elevating the risk of structural pathologies. As concrete is the predominant material in construction, ensuring its strength and durability is crucial and requires meticulous attention. In this context, microcrystalline cellulose (CMC) emerges as an innovative solution for mitigating failures. This study evaluated the behavior of concrete with the addition of CMC as an additive, aiming to enhance its mechanical and physical properties. The results demonstrated that the incorporation of 0.1% CMC into concrete resulted in significant improvements in compressive strength and reduced porosity, highlighting its potential as a sustainable additive for concrete enhancement.
