THE USE OF CANNABIDIOL AS A TREATMENT FOR ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition without definitive treatment, marked by cognitive deterioration, memory and behavioral changes. Cannabidiol (CBD) has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, with evidence that it can improve symptoms such as agitation and sleep disorders. This work reviews studies on the therapeutic potential of CBD for AD. Analysis of research from 2006 to 2024 in the PUBMED, VHL and SCIELO databases suggests that CBD can prevent and reverse cognitive deficits, showing promise, especially in combination with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). More studies are needed to confirm its long-term efficacy and safety and ensure regulatory compliance.
