AFFINITY ANALYSIS OF TESTOSTERONE AND ITS DERIVATIVES WITH ANDROGEN RECEPTORS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are physiological hormones or synthetic derivatives. The objective of this study is to analyze and compare AAS and derivatives regarding their effectiveness, affinity and potential adverse effects. A qualitative literature review was carried out on the PUBMED platform. The benefits and risks associated with the use of AAS are directly related to the degree of affinity to androgen receptors, with dehydroepiandrosterone having anabolic effects, adverse effects and low affinity to the androgen receptor; oxandrolone and testosterone with moderate response; dromostanolone, nandrolone and trenbolone with high response. Benefits include increased striated muscle anabolism and bone density, and the main risk is cardiovascular dysfunction.
Keywords: use of recreational drugs, anabolic androgenic steroids or anabolic steroids.
