Abstract

The present study analyzed the evolution of the physical and functional performance of elderly people in relation to Frailty Syndrome. 20 elderly people were evaluated in Basic Health Units in Santos/SP, participating in a prospective longitudinal study. For this, ‘Timed up and go’ (TUG) and ‘Short Physical Performance Batter’ (SPPB) were used. There was a significant decline in the 'non-frail' group in both the TUG test (p = 0.011) and the SPPB (p = 0.020), but this difference was not observed in the 'Vulnerable and Fragile' group after 9 years of study. Thus, it is concluded that there was a decline in the physical and functional performance of ‘non-frail’ elderly people, regardless of Frailty Syndrome over the years.
