THE IMPACT OF PHARMACOGENETIC TESTING ON THE CHOICE OF MEDICATION TREATMENT
Main Article Content
Abstract
The clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics has the potential to optimize drug therapy and improve clinical outcomes. The aim of this study is to highlight the importance of pharmacogenetic tests in personalized medicine. This is a retrospective study evaluating the results of pharmacogenetic tests. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Universidade Santa Cecília under number 77682824.4.0000.5513. All patients presented phenotypes classified as normal for CYP2C19, CYP3A4 and CYP3A5. Two patients presented normal phenotypes for C29 and 2D6 and one patient had an intermediate phenotype for the same CYPs. It is concluded that pharmacogenetic tests are crucial in personalizing treatment, maximizing efficacy and minimizing adverse effects.
