IN VITRO ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF THE ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OBTAINED FROM RHIZOPHORA MANGLE LINK BARK AGAINST THE MODEL YEAST SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE
Main Article Content
Abstract
The limited number of antifungals available and the increased resistance to them has led to an interest in research and development of new compounds with antifungal activity. The present study evaluated the in vitro antifungal potential of extracts rich in phenolic compounds obtained from the bark of Rhizophora mangle Link against the non-pathogenic species Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The extract was obtained by the maceration method with absolute ethanol. The microdilution method was used to perform the susceptibility tests, according to the parameters established by the modified CSLI M27 A-3 document. The results demonstrated antifungal potential of the extract at a concentration of 10 mg/mL, which is defined as the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)..
