REFLECTIONS OF URBANIZATION ON THE BIODIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF SÃO PAULO: THE CASE OF CALEA L. (ASTERACEAE)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The disorderly advance of urbanization in the state of São Paulo has caused the degradation of natural areas and contributed to the loss of biodiversity. This study focuses on the species Calea acaullis and Calea gentianoides (Asteraceae), both classified as vulnerable on the list of threatened species in Brazil. The objective of this study is to describe the species in question to provide data on their phenology and distribution in the state of São Paulo. The research was carried out through analysis of images of typus-material, herbarium material and consultation of specialized bibliographies. The results show an increasing pressure on the natural habitats of these species, both in the Cerrado and in the Atlantic Forest biome. These plants preservation is essential because of their ecological role and medicinal properties.
