INDUCTION OF CELL DEATH BY FERROPTOSIS AS A THERAPEUTIC STRATEGY AGAINST MELANOMA
Main Article Content
Abstract
Recent discoveries have shown that melanoma cancer cells are sensitive to ferroptosis, a type of cell death. This literature review aims to gather articles on ferroptosis, melanoma, and cancer to elucidate the role of ferroptosis as a potential therapy against melanoma. Searches were conducted in databases such as Scielo, PubMed, Nature, and Web of Science. The main results include the identification of inductive and modulatory pathways of ferroptosis. Despite advancements, there are still gaps in the application of ferroptosis as a therapy against melanoma. Better understanding the mechanisms that regulate ferroptosis is crucial to overcoming the acquired resistance of melanoma cells and developing effective therapeutic strategies.
