THE TREATMENT OF THE LGBTI+ COMMUNITY IN THE MEDIA: AN ANALYSIS OF THE BOOK “RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE”
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigated the treatment of the LGBTI+ community in the media by analyzing the book “Red, White and Blue Blood” (2019) by Casey McQuiston, with the aim of highlighting how the representativeness of the community is still neglected and manipulated, drawing a parallel with the work and the current communication scenario. The methodology included field research with 56 students from the Faculty of Art and Communication at Santa Cecília University. The results showed that, although media coverage is still stereotyped, the queer community is gaining more speaking space in the field of communication. The conclusion is that the media still needs to better integrate the LGBTI+ community into its narratives.
