Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Afro-Brazilian literature on the identity and selfesteem of children, particularly focusing on how the representation of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds within literary works affects young readers. The methodology employed is a bibliographic review, examining the themes, characters, and narratives presented in selected Afro-Brazilian children's books. The findings indicate that positive representation in literature is crucial for fostering a healthy self-concept and racial identity among Afro-Brazilian children. These literary exposures help them develop a positive image of themselves and their cultural heritage, enhancing self-esteem and promoting greater empathy and understanding among peers of diverse backgrounds.
