LITERACY OF STUDENTS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM

Abstract
Considering the current state of education in Brazil, this research aims to identify which methods or approaches are most effective for teaching literacy to children on the autism spectrum. The methodology adopted is a literature review based on the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and authors who study the subject. Based on the research, we concluded that the phonics method proved to be the most effective approach for teaching literacy to children with ASD.
