Abstract

This work studies the supply of cannabis-based products by the Unified Health System for patients with chronic pain. The problem lies in the fact that, in Brazil, there is insufficient regulation on the subject. The aim is to highlight the need and urgency of making the State responsible for regulating and distributing products derived from Cannabis sativa. The method was developed by narrative review. The results demonstrated that state policies on the supply of cannabis-based products do not cover chronic and refractory pain. In conclusion, it is the State’s obligation to provide these products nationwide to patients with some chronic pain syndrome and to those who have become refractory to conventional treatments.
