CORRELATION BETWEEN GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) AND CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY WITH 73 COUNTRIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
With each passing year, it is clear that world governments want to increase their production of goods and services. However, it is essential to grow in a sustainable way. This study aimed to calculate and analyze the correlation between GDP and the volume of CO2 emitted by a sample of 73 countries. Data for the year 2022 were collected. CO2 emissions data were obtained from the Global Carbon Atlas website, while GDP data were extracted from the World Bank Group database. An explanatory and non-experimental quantitative model was followed. A positive and significant correlation (r=0.83) was found (p<0.01). This result shows that in this sample of countries, the higher the GDP, the higher the volume of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, or the lower the GDP, the lower the CO2 emissions.
