HIV/AIDS AND ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY: AN ANALYSIS OF THE EVOLUTION OF MEDICATIONS IN BRAZIL

Abstract
It has been four decades since the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was identified as the causative agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Since then, scientists have been working on the mechanisms of HIV. In light of this, the research sought to trace a timeline of the evolution of antiretroviral treatments provided in Brazil, with the aim of analyzing the path to date and what the prospects are for the future. It was concluded that, with advances in HIV treatment, patients now have a better prognosis and quality of life compared to the beginning of the pandemic. However, when analyzing the overall picture, it is observed that it is still necessary to develop new therapeutic approaches, especially to achieve the definitive eradication of HIV
