Abstract

This study developed and evaluated a sunscreen gel-cream formulation containing Punica granatum (pomegranate) extract combined with a physical sunscreen. Pomegranate was chosen for its rich ellagic acid content, which has antioxidant and photoprotective properties. The formulation presented adequate pH for the skin, initial stability, and a light, easy-to-apply texture, characteristics that favor user acceptance. The results demonstrated the product's pharmacotechnical viability and its potential for preventing photoaging and skin carcinogenesis. The conclusion is that the combination of plant extracts and sunscreens is a promising strategy in phytocosmetics, although further studies are needed to confirm long-term safety and efficacy
