Abstract

This research aims to delve into the complex and multifaceted world of the media, with the aim of investigating the impact of media and social environments on the occurrence of mental disorders among prominent figures in the music and television industries. Using a documentary methodology, analyzing documents such as documentaries and biographical books about Chorão's case and his relationship with substance abuse, we seek to unravel the nuances of this issue, shedding light on the challenges he faced. The results showed that public figures are more vulnerable to mental disorders due to intense media exposure, invasion of privacy, constant criticism, and social stigma. These factors foster feelings of low self-esteem and the use of substances as a form of coping, which intensifies anxiety and depression. The case of Alexandre Magno Abrão, also known as Chorão, analyzed in this study, illustrates the complex relationship between mental health, substance abuse, and media pressure, highlighting the importance of expanding the debate on mental health, public policy, and media responsibility
