Abstract

Synthetic microfiber pollution has emerged as an environmental concern due to its persistence in aquatic ecosystems. This study assessed the effects of different concentrations of polyester microfibers on the sea urchin Echinometra lucunter, analyzing morphological changes and determining the EC₅₀. Even at relatively low concentrations, larvae showed deformities and developmental delays, indicating significant ecological impact. The widespread occurrence and ingestion of these particles highlights their ecotoxicological relevance and underscore the need for further research and mitigation strategies amid the growth of the textile industry and fabric disposal
