Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders and is commonly linked to severe functional and psychosocial impairments. The objective of this study was to analyze the impacts of the irrational use of methylphenidate in the treatment of ADHD, addressing its risks and the role of pharmacists in promoting conscious use. This is a literature review based on the database available on the PUBMED® (National Library of Medicine) platform. The study highlights the impacts of the irrational use of methylphenidate, highlighting the risks associated with self-medication and indiscriminate prescribing. The study reinforces the importance of pharmacists in promoting rational use of the drug and providing safe guidance to patients
