EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF SEMAGLUTIDE FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Obesity, a chronic and multifactorial condition, is a public health problem associated with comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Semaglutide, a GLP-1 analogue originally used for diabetes, has shown efficacy in weight loss. This study reviews its efficacy and safety. Randomized clinical trials indicate significant and sustained average weight loss, as well as metabolic benefits (improved blood glucose and blood pressure). Its mechanism slows gastric emptying, increases satiety, and decreases appetite. Gastrointestinal adverse effects are common and require monitoring. The conclusion is that semaglutide is an effective and relatively safe therapeutic alternative for weight loss, but long-term studies are needed
