PREDICTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICITY OF OPIOID ANALYTIC DRUGS USED IN PAIN TREATMENT
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study evaluated the predicted environmental toxicity of ten opioid drugs used in pain management through in silico analyses using the ECOSAR™ program Version 1.11, available in the EPI Suite® platform. Acute and chronic effects on algae, crustaceans, and fish were estimated. The values obtained were classified according to the criteria established in European Directive 93/67/EEC. The results revealed that buprenorphine and pentazocine presented high toxicity, with extreme classifications, in different species. The data obtained in this study reinforce the need for public policies for proper drug disposal, as well as for improved technologies used in domestic sewage treatment.
