Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to survey cases of acute drug poisoning in the cities of Santos and São Paulo between 2019 and 2024. The study adopted a quantitative and descriptive approach, using a sample composed of drug poisoning cases reported in the DATASUS system between 2019 and 2024. The analyses revealed a higher number of poisoning cases in the city of São Paulo, which reflects the population differences. There was a predominance of females and a higher incidence among young adults (20 to 39 years old), and this is the main circumstance associated with suicide attempts. The results highlight the urgent need for public policies focused on mental health and the rational use of medication
