IMPACTS OF FOOD ON CHILDREN’S HEALTH DURING THE FOOD INTRODUCTION PHASE
Main Article Content
Abstract
The introduction of solid foods is a crucial period for developing habits that prevent iron deficiency anemia, vitamin A deficiency, and excess weight. This study evaluated the impacts of dietary practices during the introduction of solid foods on the physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children through an integrative review in PubMed (January 2024–May 2025), including 17 studies. Appropriate practices such as exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months and gradual introduction of a variety of foods were associated with better growth and development. On the other hand, early consumption of ultra-processed foods and low iron intake are associated with nutritional risks. The conclusion is that the quality of solid foods is fundamental to child health, requiring appropriate guidance for parents and caregivers
