THE DIANA ISLAND COMMUNITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work aims to present the Diana Island Community, located in the city of Santos, São Paulo. Through bibliographical research and a visit to the site, we sought to understand how the island's residents live, their history, origins, customs, and curiosities. During the visit, the simplicity of life in the community was striking, where people live in houses with few infrastructure and fishing is their main source of income. Despite their material limitations, we observed that the residents demonstrate happiness and pride in their place. The experience allowed us to reflect on how it is possible to live well with little, valuing the essentials. We conclude that improvements in housing infrastructure and expansion of space could further benefit the residents, without losing the cultural essence of the community, which is also known for its local cuisine and hospitality. The study also highlights the importance of valuing and preserving communities like this, which represent part of the region's sociocultural heritage
