EXTRACTION OF NATURAL PIGMENTS FROM PLANT ORGANS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The project aimed to evaluate the use of natural dyes obtained from annatto (Bixa orellana), turmeric (Curcuma longa), hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa), and angico (Anadenanthera macrocarpa) in coloring cotton fabrics. The extracts were prepared by stirring in water and ethanol, applied with and without natural mordants, and observed to verify color fixation and stability on the fabric. pH tests were also performed to assess hue changes. The results showed that the extraction of natural dyes was generally successful. The conclusion is that the dyes studied have potential for application as more sustainable alternatives to synthetic dyes but require further standardization and additional studies for industrial-scale application
