INVENTORY OF ANIMALS STRANDED ON THE BEACHES OF GUARUJÁ IN 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
The diversity of marine fauna is crucial for the balance of ocean ecosystems, home to a vast array of species, from small fish to large predators such as sharks and whales. According to studies such as those presented at the Fisheries Institute, the oceans play a crucial role in regulating the climate, producing oxygen, and maintaining food chains that sustain both marine life and human communities. Furthermore, ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangroves serve as nurseries for various species, ensuring the continuity of life in the sea. Despite its importance, marine biodiversity faces numerous threats, such as overfishing, plastic pollution, and ocean acidification due to climate change. Furthermore, the RIC-CPS article highlights that the destruction of coastal areas for urbanization and contamination by industrial waste also contributes to the decline of many marine species. After analyzing this problem, it was concluded that compiling an inventory of stranded animals recorded on the SIMBA platform would be a way to map the species and locations with the greatest evidence of marine strandings, which would aid in further research on these animals.
