ARCHITECTURE PROJECT - ARCOS DO VALONGO CULTURAL SPACE

Abstract

The city of Santos is strongly marked by its economic importance and heritage value at a national level. From this perspective, as a strategic plan to strengthen local memory and foster cultural and artistic practices in the city's central region, the architectural design for the Arcos do Valongo Cultural Center is proposed. The name refers to the historic gable protected by the municipal agency CONDEPASA – Santos Council for the Defense of Cultural Heritage. In this sense, the project aims to make the cultural facility a complement to Santos's historical and touristic axis, establishing harmony between heritage assets and contemporary interventions. Thus, adopting the historic façade as a landmark and intervening within an area with strong potential—a modern development—means respectfully reestablishing the connection with the past and keeping the memory of the Brazilian nation alive in today's daily life
