ETHNOHERPETOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE FROM DIFFERENT REGIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ethnoherpetology studies the interaction between humans, reptiles, and amphibians, seeking solutions to minimize impacts on both sides. Popular understanding of these animals, especially among communities close to them, can contribute to the conservation of local wildlife. This still underexplored field offers a unique opportunity to investigate the cultural and ecological knowledge passed down through generations, as well as the associated myths and legends. Involving the community in these processes can correct misconceptions, raise awareness, and enrich scientific knowledge about these species, promoting more effective conservation measures.
Keywords: ethnoherpetology; conservation; ecological knowledge; reptiles and amphibians; local community.
