Abstract
The present study followed the development of high school students in the Scientific Initiation course, in which, as a requirement, students conduct research on topics of interest to their group, from the initial elaboration to the presentation before an evaluation panel at the end of the semester. The aim was to highlight the importance of young people being engaged in the academic environment as an extension of high school education. The research involved an analysis of tilapia tissues obtained from the Fish Market in Santos - SP, which, over the weeks, provided students with greater autonomy, scientific knowledge, and environmental awareness
