Abstract
The main objective of this study is to analyze the impacts resulting from the port/city relationship in the municipality of Santos from the perspective of port workers. An exploratory study was conducted in the port of Santos, with approaches to port professionals. The study addressed items such as the perception of conflict between the port and the city of Santos, the identification of impacts resulting from the mismatch in the city/port relationship and the perspective of a sustainable relationship between both. When analyzing the data, it was possible to state that for 85% of the interviewees, there is a clear perception of conflict between the city and its port, 95% of the port professionals interviewed can perceive impacts caused by the city/port conflict and 90% of them consider it impossible to envision a sustainable future for the relationship established between the city and the port, which led us to conclude that the aspect of greatest relevance for the degree of disbelief in a harmonious future between port and city is found in the perception of impacts related to the quality of life of citizens resulting from port operations on an increasingly larger scale, since the port is essential to the development and economic sustainability of the city, the region and even the country, making the prospect of minimizing or containing the volume of cargo and vehicles that arrive and leave it every day distant.
