Abstract
Absorbance and transmittance spectroscopy uses the Beer-Lambert principle as a basis and is a well-known technique used to measure absorption peaks and identify organic, inorganic and biological species. The parameters used to change automotive lubricating oil are given by the manufacturer, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 km. The use of UV-Vis spectroscopy has proven to be a viable alternative for assessing oil degradation and the possible need for oil change in order to minimize costs, avoid downtime, accidents and fines.
