Abstract
This article aims to discuss transsexuality in the context of the Unified Health System in Brazil. To this end, the debate on health policies for transsexuals is analyzed, up until the publication of Ordinance GM/MS No. 2,803, of November 19, 2013. Finally, based on the commitment of the Ministry of Health to reduce inequalities, the work of the SUS regarding the LGBT community is discussed, specifically those individuals characterized as transsexuals and transvestites, and how the SUS has acted to reorient public health policies with the aim of expanding access to quality actions and services.
