Abstract

This study analyzes the occurrence of two types of environmental crimes in a coastal municipality. These are crimes against wildlife, described in Law 9605/98 in articles 29 to 37, and crimes of destruction and damage to permanent preservation forests, and to areas of dune-fixing and mangrove-protecting vegetation, as set forth in articles 38 and 50 of the same legal provision. The method used was analytical and descriptive, based on data from the year 2014, obtained from the Municipal Environmental Civil Guard of Praia Grande/SP. The results indicated the importance of the action of these municipal public actors in combating the environmental crimes analyzed herein. The discussion presents the relevance of an environmental detachment in a coastal municipality in compliance with its special status as a National Heritage Site. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of this type of specialized inspection in preserving biodiversity and recommends further studies to outline the participation of the environmental group in mitigating other environmental impacts resulting from human action in coastal regions.
