Abstract

This study aimed to develop a methodology for monitoring organic compounds in seawater samples collected in the area of influence of the Santos submarine outfall (ESS) through the use of Raman spectroscopy. Samples were collected in the vicinity of the ESS outlet (surface and bottom) and from a control point, and then analyzed in a portable dispersive Raman system. The results showed differences in the Raman spectra of the samples collected in the area of influence of the ESS and the control point. Based on the preliminary results obtained in this study, improvements in environmental monitoring systems for organic compounds can be developed through Raman spectroscopy, reducing the discharge of these compounds into aquatic ecosystems.
