Abstract

Among the most widely used and well-known processes in the industry, electric arc welding using coated electrodes (Shielded Metal Arc Welding or SMAW) stands out. The aim of this study was to address advanced welding processes and new technologies associated with consumables, machines and materials used in metal welding. A comparative experiment was carried out between welding plates to the web of a beam, both made of structural steel, to obtain a joint. The results demonstrated a comparison between the electric arc welding techniques FCAW-s and SMAW, enabling the verification of data and parameters on the feasibility, advantages and limitations of changing the application of a conventional process for a more recent and advanced one.
