Abstract

This is a study on land use by restinga vegetation on the southeastern coast of Brazil, in the coastal area where the municipality of Ilha Comprida is located, through the analysis of images obtained by remote sensing that show land use between the 1990s and 2010. The study aims to map this type of vegetation cover, observing the consequences of human action during this period. The results indicate an average suppression of restinga vegetation of around 11% between 1993 and 2010, assessed by the use of NDVI applied to a historical series of satellite images over the two decades. The construction of the bridge connecting the continent and the island is the fact pointed out in the study as one of the causes of the increase in the devastation of the island's vegetation during this period.
