Abstract

Although the Light Rail Vehicle improves urban mobility and it is a low emission transport of polluting gases, in its implementation in the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista to work was delivered with only a lawn, losing environmental quality it had with the trees on the site formerly. To perform the historic study, the historical images tool of the Google Earth Pro software was used to compare satellite images from 2009 to 2017. The linear study area has 1.15km from orchid to channel 2. Satellite imagery dates with less visual interference were selected. From 2009 to 2013 there was an increase in number of trees and canopy size. However, in 2017, after the LRV work, the type 2 trees (large canopy) were cleared and only a few of type 1 (palm type) were kept in stretch 2. In the field observation, spontaneous uses were documented that the community proposes to the place. Urban and budgetary planning need attention and popular participation, seeking to meet the environmental demands, comfort and safety of citizens.
