Mineral lubricating oil degradation after heating for 48 H: Raman spectroscopy analysis Andressa Cristina de Mattos Bezerra, Marcos Tadeu Tavares Pacheco, Landulfo Silveira Jr.

Main Article Content

Abstract

Among the three types of automotive lubricating oil available on the market, mineral oil is the closest to crude oil, despite undergoing various refining processes. Even with the addition of additives to perform its functions more successfully, the oil undergoes degradation due to temperature increase during vehicle operation. Therefore, the thermal degradation of mineral oil was evaluated at 48 h of heating, using the Raman spectroscopy technique, which demonstrated to be able to identify changes resulting from the degradation process.
