Abstract
This paper aims to present a discussion about the relevance of students' prior knowledge as a link to meaningful learning in Physical Education classes in the 3rd year of elementary school. For this learning to take place it is necessary to recognize the importance of the students' lived experiences and their existing cognitive structure as factors for assimilating new knowledge in a non-arbitrary way leading to substantial and effective assimilation. All the work was done in agreement with BNCC expanding the student's cultural collection of movement within a popular play called “elastic” where the student's body experience resulted in the contextualization of effective meaningful learning by expanding the body movement culture.
