Abstract
One of the main causes of low back pain is herniated discs. This pathology consists of an intervertebral disc displacement out of its normal location, which may arise by several factors, and present in different directions, and may be asymptomatic or not. PilatesR, in turn, is a method of exercise that has been widely studied as complementary treatment of this pathology, considering the various benefits that the practice entails, therefore, increases the body consciousness on the correct contraction of deep muscles of the abdomen associated with respiration that leads to a decrease in external loads on the lumbar intervertebral discs, since they contribute to the loin-pelvic stabilization, decreasing pain and their recurrences. Therefore, the present study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with lumbar disc herniation who practice PilatesR, performed through an analytical, observational cross-sectional study, in which the research was conducted with patients of a PilateSR Studio in the Baixada Santista that answered a specific questionnaire that analyzed the epidemiological profile of the practitioners. As results, it was observed that the PilatesR method contributes positively to the treatment of low back pain due to lumbar disc herniation. Thus, it is understood that the PilatesR method in view of the picture presented with the studied universe offers a high level of positive correspondence to what was proposed.
