Presence of Dogs (Canis familiaris) and Cats (Felis catus) in the Barra do Ulna Sustainable Development Reserve (Peruíbe): Impacts and Population Control Marco Antonio Furlanetto Bento

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to identify and estimate the presence of dogs and cats in a feral situation, to promote population control of these animals with surgical sterilization and awareness of the local population at RDS Barra do Ulna. The diagnosis of these animals was made through residents' reports and the last census of the current management of the Conservation Unit. 39 dogs and 12 cats were estimated to be domiciled and semi - domiciled, and about 15 cats and 05 stray dogs in a feral situation. In April 2018, 41 sterilization surgeries were performed. The results of the analyzes show that 65.9% of dogs were sterilized and 44.4% of cats. Satisfactory number in the population control of feral cat dogs and the need for further research and awareness of their action.
