Abstract
Medicinal plants and herb are integral parts of natural resources and directly exert a major influence on contemporary society, mainly because it can be used as alternative healing methods. To this, its use has become tradition in many Brazilian communities. This study aimed to identify if the caiçara population of Ilha Comprida / SP uses herbs and plants for medicinal purposes. The methodology adopted was the exploratory, of quantitative and qualitative character, that is, a mixed model, adopting the method called “Snowball”. The results allowed us to observe that the vast majority of respondents besides having plants considered medicinal in their homes, also use them for these purposes.
