Abstract
The ore transportation in gondola-type wagons takes place on several railways around the world and is a several challenge for modern railway engineering. Transport can occur in regions where there are rainy periods in much of the year, causing excessive humidity inside the wagons and even the formation of free water trapped on the surface of the cargo, caused by the inefficiency of the drainage systems along the storage structure. This water mixed with the ore is an unnecessary weight that increases diesel consumption in the locomotive, a factor that requires deep studies for mitigation. The present work presents the initial stage of an experimental bench project to be developed, as well as the initial results of finite element numerical simulation (CFD - Computational Fluid Dynamic) for different drain configurations.
