Abstract

This study addresses the acute toxicity assessment of Methylparaben and Propylparaben, antimicrobial preservatives used in personal use products (PCPs), through the prediction model with the test organism Mysida. The structure-ecotoxicity relationships of MP and PP in aquatic organisms were explored using the ECOSAR v1.11 software present on the EPI Suite® platform v.4.11. The results revealed LC50 of 30,626 mg / L for Methylparaben, classifying it as harmful according to the European Union directive 93/67 / EEC. For Propylparaben the result obtained was LC50 of 5,619 mg / L, classifying it as toxic according to the EEC directive. The results obtained in the present study showed the need to identify the safety of PCPs safety in aquatic environments, for future achievement in Brazilian environmental legislation, as well as the implementation of regular programs, aimed at monitoring the levels of PCPs in Treatment Plants Effluent.
