Abstract

The southwest Atlantic is one of the world's regions with the highest richness and endemism of Chondrichthyes and many of these species are currently threatened. The list of threatened species in the state of São Paulo has species that lack genetic studies. In this way, this evaluation aimed to identify which listed species lack studies and genetic data that should be prioritized by scientific and conservation efforts. The species Squalus albicaudus, Tetronarce puelcha, Psammobatis extenta, and Zapteryx brevirostris should be given priority in future genetic studies in the state of São Paulo and it is necessary to apply the technique of environmental DNA, in order to ascertain whether there are species that are indeed extinct regionally.
