Abstract
The use of visual censuses for ichthyofaunistic surveys is increasing, especially in shallow waters, and it is common to carry them out with the aid of filming. For this, free diving is one of the most popular practices, being applicable in environments of beaches and rocky shores. The study sought to classify the ichthyofauna in two beaches of Ilha Grande – RJ, Lopes Mendes and Crena beaches, in which the abundance, richness and diversity of species were analyzed. 142 individuals were identified, belonging to 9 families and 10 species. The most abundant species on both beaches were Diplodus argenteus and Abudefduf saxatilis, the last one, Haemulon aurolineatum and Stegastes fuscus were recorded in studies already carried out at Ilha Grande Bay.
