Abstract

 The present work aims to analyze the phobic anxiety disorder related to childbirth, called partophobia or tocophobia, as a worldwide phenomenon, characterized by pathological fear or avoidance of childbirth and affects the female population, negatively influencing the life of the pregnant woman and the fetus. Despite its worldwide prevalence, it is neglected by pregnant care services. Therefore, it is possible to verify that it is necessary to join efforts, with the objective of offering public policies of assistance to women before pregnancy and from prenatal care, adequate and specialized professional training of the multidisciplinary team to reduce fear and the consequences negative for the pregnant woman and the fetus. In view of the lack of data in Brazil, as the first validation instrument was published in 2021, we are facing the challenge of building public policies for adequate care for women affected by partophobia.
