Abstract

 In recent decades, plastic and articles produced from it are increasingly used and common, in the most diverse areas and also in everyday use, mainly due to its practicality and low cost. However, it is also common to associate plastics with pollution and difficulty in recycling these materials. Microplastics are also appearing more and more in different places and with a high level of contamination. Thus, this article has the general objective of presenting the impacts of microplastics on society. Using bibliographical research, it was possible to conclude that microplastics have a high potential for harm to living beings, and may even become an economic and public health problem.
